Tommy Joe Ivie

March 24, 1944 ~ November 11, 2021 (age 77)

Obituary

Tommy Joe Ivie, age 77, of Broken Bow passed away Veterans Day (Thursday, November 11) at his son’s home in Durant. He was born Saturday, March 25, 1944.

He was a shining light to everyone who knew him. Tommy had a big heart and dedicated his life to helping friends, neighbors and even strangers. While his life’s passion was driving trucks, the thing he loved most in the world was his wife Brenda, married almost forty years.  She preceded him in death in January, 2021. They were soul mates and she was his co-pilot as they crisscrossed the country hauling produce for over thirty years. Together, they opened their home to more than twelve foreign exchange students over the years. Their loving Christian home provided a place where the students could experience what it was like living in an American home.  Tommy proudly served during the Vietnam era (1962 to 1966) in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged. He loved watching westerns, military movies, and holiday movies on the Hallmark Channel. Every Christmas, his friends and family looked forward to his special chocolate peanut butter cookies.  His church family at Chapel of the Pines meant the world to him. The pastors and members lovingly helped him during his final days by taking him to medical appointments and various stays in the hospital.  Tommy was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tommy is survived by two sons, Blaine Ivie and Zack (Brandt) Ivie of Durant, one granddaughter, Gabriella,  one sister, Luanne Stuart of Bixby, Oklahoma, two nephews, Robert Ivie of Decatur, Texas, Paul Ivie of Healdton, Oklahoma and one niece, Ruby Ivie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister-in-law, Marsha Williams (and husband Bob) of Kingsland, Georgia, sister-in-law, Bobbie Frost of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, Brian Fails (and wife Barbara) of Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by one son, Jack Ivie, his mother, Pat Dulworth and stepfather, Paul Stuart and his brothers Don Ivie, Bob Ivie and Paul (Bear) Stuart.
