Nicky Bruce Valdez, 65, passed away in his home in Broken Bow on May 13th, 2020.
He was born to parents Max R. and Nathera A. (Green) Valdez, on May 30, 1954 in DeQueen, Arkansas.
Nick spent most of his adult life as a pipe fitter working all over the United States, though he was most proud of his time as a firefighter/EMT for the Broken Bow Fire Department. It was there he got to exercise his natural ability of taking care of others; he would tell you the only thing he exercised were his "massive pythons" (his arms).
Nick was preceded in death by his parents; Max (1994) and Nathera (2004).
He is proudly survived by his brother, Tony J. Valdez and his kids; Andria Valdez and Erik Valdez. Along with his own children (as he would say, his "chillrens"); Che Valdez (and his wife, Susan, of Hochatown), Leslie (Valdez) Highful (Broken Bow), Torren Valdez (Olympia, WA) and Jarred Valdez (Glendale, AZ). And his grandchildren (his "chillren's chillren"); Devin Highful, Hadyn Highful, Averi Highful, Zoe Valdez, Carli Valdez and Landree Valdez. He called them his Summer Children. Summer here, Summer there. And lastly he leaves behind his emotional support dogs, Max and G-Money, as he always boasted, "kids and dogs like me."
Those who knew Nick are well aware that the word "stranger" was not in his vocabulary. Whether it was a neighbor, a co-worker, a classmate, or even someone in the local supermarket, it did not matter to him; all were treated with the same amount of love, respect and attention. He also shared his sense of humor, immersive stories, and time with his community. Time which he would spend grieving with them and comforting the lost, the sick, and the lonely.
He loved his community and his community loved him. Though he wasn't with us for a long time, he was with us for a good time. He will be missed in the exact way that he loved the ones around him; infinitely.
Arrangements are being handled by Brumley Funeral Home. Please keep the Valdez family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Nick will be greatly missed.
