Mulsie “Lena” Battiest, 71, passed from this life April 24, 2021 in Broken Bow, OK. She was born July 7, 1949, in Hugo, OK, Victor and Ida (Morris) Tims.
Lena was a member of the St. Matthew Presbyterian Church and had lived in McCurtain County most of her life. She enjoyed being a nurse, loved working at Tyson’s Foods, and doing others’ hair. Lena also enjoyed singing Choctaw hymns, traveling, and listening to gospel singings. She was an avid Broken Bow Savage Football fan and liked reading the local newspaper. Lena loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.
She married the love of her life Esau Battiest when she was 18 years old at the St. Matthews Presbyterian Church.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Esau Battiest; parents, Victor and Ida Tims; daughters, Yolanda Battiest, and Katie Baker; son, Cordell Battiest; granddaughter, Ataya Battiest; sisters, Rebecca Samuels, Ethal Tims, Geraldine Tims, and Vera Tims; mother and father-in-law, Helen and Isaac Battiest.
Lena is survived by her sons, Reggie Baker, of Broken Bow; daughters, Amanda and Robert Rios, of Broken Bow, and Anita and Wally Jefferson, of Broken Bow; brothers, Silas Tims, of Idabel, and Lester Tims, of Stonewall, OK; grandchildren, Tia Battiest, Leo Battiest, Robert Rios, Desiree Noah, and Krystal Mussett; great-grandchildren, Paityn Battiest, Lilah Gibson, Izabella Battiest, Kee’ana Martinez, Na’Omi Martinez, and Ja’tavis Hodge; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 3PM at the St. Matthews Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rita Battiest officiating. Burial will follow at St. Matthews Cemetery.
Wake Service will be at the Bear Bottom Lodge in Hochatown Friday evening.
