Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the Eagletown Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Brumley Funeral Home in Broken Bow.
Please understand that we are still under certain guidelines for crowd sizes. The visitation will be open for 50% capacity at a time.
LaVerne “Hoot” Bates was born on July 16, 1930 in Eagletown, OK to Cecil and Josie Joiner.
She passed peacefully from this life on Monday, June 1, 2020 at her home in Eagletown in her 89th year of life.
Hoot spent most of her life in Eagletown with the exception of 11 years spent in Humbolt County, CA where her children were born.
She worked for the Eagletown School System in the cafeteria for over 30 years before retiring in 1995.
She loved people and never met a stranger.
Hoot loved good country music, dancing, the casino and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Josie Joiner; brothers, Bo, Bitty Son, Travis & Ricky; sisters, Betty Jo, Linda & Bonnie Kay; sister-in-law, Edna Joiner; brother-in-law, Bill Blankenship; and great-grandson, Joshua Wright.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Nevin (Cindy) Bates; daughters, Jeanie “Gypsi” Noin, Karen (Fred) Ross, & Patricia (Jim) Wilson, and stepdaughter, Shelby (Wayne) Parker.
She was a much-loved Granny Hoot to her grandchildren; Samantha (Kelly) Noin, Willie (Dawn) Cox, Phillip Bates, Mike & Nigel Stevens, Justin Noin, Holly (Jeff), Julie & Tony (Teresa) Parker, Jacob (Brenda) Wilson, Becky Decker, and Sheilah & Rhonda Hankins; and Great Granny to Kesha, Savanna, Oaklyn, Evan, Emma, Layla, Ewan, Nola, Jay, Alexander, Elizabeth, Abbi, Emmi, Teddy, Chasity & Cassidy; great-great Granny to Bella, Cloey, Greyson, Rolan & Beckett.
Hoot is also survived by sisters, Geraldine Blankenship, Donnie Smith, Mary Helen (Jackie) Morris & Judy (Rex) Ross; brother, Paul (Helen) Joiner and sister-in-law, Judy Joiner.
Hoot also leaves a special friend and pen-pal of 20 years, James See, her fur-buddy, Little Gus, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
