Kay Blackwell, age 69, of Pickens, Oklahoma, died, Friday, September 3, 2021 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was born on Wednesday, December 5, 1951to Elsworth Denton and Ethel Leah Crawford Blackwell in De Queen, Arkansas.
Kay was a woman that loved the Lord and was a active member of the Free Holiness Church in Pickens for over 55 years. She loved her church and her family very much and served both with the love of the Lord. Kay worked 46 years for the Battiest Public Schools as the head cook in the cafeteria until her retirement in 2018. She was very proud to have her career at the school and received various awards over the years for her dedication to the school. Kay loved gospel music, painting, listening to audio books, crocheting and going to garage sales. Kay was always trying to learn something new, like learning to speak Choctaw. Kay was a loving sister, aunt and friend and will be missed and loved by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Billy Blackwell, Jerry Wilson, Denton Blackwell and Richard Wilson and sisters, Betty Hampton, Mary Jane Robinson, Owatha Brown and Billie Stowe.
Kay is survived by her sister, Bea Jaye Leflore of Pickens, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Bethel Cemetery in Bethel, Oklahoma with Brother Olin Vaughen officiating. Visitation will be general on Tuesday, September 7, 2021at the Brumley Funeral Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Brumley Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
