Jerry Bruce Chapman was born on February 8, 1935—the third born of six siblings—in Wapanucka, OK to Virgil Bruce and Minnie Lee Chapman. He passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at his home in Eagletown, OK. He was 85 years old.

Jerry attended Victory Life Church in Broken Bow, OK until his recent health decline, but he remained connected through online services.  He was a US Army veteran having served honorably from 1957-1959. He served in the 2nd Missile Battalion (Nike Hercules) and the 71st Air Defense Artillery Regiment. Also, he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal along with an honorable discharge.

Jerry was a carpenter his entire adult life and enjoyed his work. If he had a vision for it, he could build it. He was able to make something out of nothing.  He loved his family and cherished spending time with them. He also enjoyed being at home at his secluded residence and acreage.  He was known for his dry sense of humor and he loved to pester people—especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Jerry was a dedicated husband to his wife of 57 years, Sharon. As she passed less than a week before him, the loving couple was only separated for a few days in this life.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Chapman; infant son, Jeffrey Bruce Chapman; parents, Virgil Bruce & Minnie Lee Baxter Chapman; and brothers, Willie Joe Chapman, Kenneth LaVelle Chapman & John Roy Chapman.

Left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his daughters, Cari Chapman Roberts (husband, Charley) of Ardmore, OK & Jill Chapman Lawler (husband, Tony) of Eagletown; sisters, Wanda Blocker (husband, Robert) of Haworth, OK & Sybil Gordon (husband, Gene) of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Eran Opsahl, Matthew Dragg, Kendall Lawler, & Kody Lawler; three great-grandchildren; five nephews; and six nieces.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 2:00PM at the Eagletown Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Jeter officiating.
