BETTY LOUISE HEATON
Betty Heaton passed away July 6 at her home in Smithville, OK. Betty was born November 3, 1924 in Dallas, TX, the daughter of Edward and Pearl (Fowler) Yargee. She was 96.
Betty’s mother died when she was four years old and was raised in Welling, OK by her maternal grandmother, Thursey Fowler and adopted her grandmothers’ name. She graduated from Tahlequah Central High School in 1942 and moved to California shortly thereafter.
Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Acree, of Tulsa, and her son, Ronald Ratliff, of Smithville, OK. She is survived by her husband, Norman, of the home; granddaughters, Emily Corley, and husband, Tom, of Bixby, OK, and Alyson Vasquez, and husband, Hector, of League City, TX; and grandsons, Bill and Kelly Acree, both of Tulsa. Betty is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
Prior to her marriage to Norman, and later moving to Smithville, she was an insurance representative in Tahlequah.
Betty was a long-time member of the Octavia Baptist Church, where she taught a senior ladies Sunday school class for many years. She was also an active member of the Octavia Volunteer Fire Department for some thirty years. She was a passionate trout and crappie angler. She enjoyed many hours on the family pontoon boat with her children and grandchildren. Betty and Norman had been residents of Smithville since 1980.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, July 10 at 2PM at the Octavia Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Rogers officiating.
