Audrey Luella Reid, of the Holly Creek Community, was born to Ralph and Audrey (Morrow) Lickiss on September 9, 1934 in Cherokee, Iowa. She passed into eternal life on May 3, 2020 in Idabel, Oklahoma at the age of 85.
Audrey grew up in Larabee and Cherokee, Iowa. She joined the United States Navy, after graduating high school, where she met Lemuel Luke Reid while serving at the Naval hospital. Luke and Luella were married in Charleston, South Carolina on August 13, 1954.
After her service to our country was completed, she and Luke moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma to attend school. After graduation from trade school, they lived in San Diego, California for several years before returning to Broken Bow in 1962. She has made the Holly Creek Community her home since 1964.
Audrey held many jobs while her children were young. She worked at Red River Army Depot in Texarkana before starting her career as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, becoming the first female letter carrier in the State of Oklahoma. After retiring from the U.S.P.S., she worked as a cafeteria employee for Lukfata schools.
Audrey was a member of and deacon at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church (McGee Chapel) where she helped with Sunday school, vacation Bible school and even presented the sermon on occasion. Before attending McGee Chapel, she gave her services to Pine Lake Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow. Also, she was a member of the McCurtain Gem and Mineral Club and the Kiamichi Street Riders.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Audrey Lickiss; her husband, Luke, in 2015; her son, Gordon, in 2009; three brothers, James, Eddie, & David Lickiss; her grandson-in-law, Pepe Arriaga, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Clinton Reid (wife, Tammy) of Wright City, Oklahoma & Kevin Reid (partner, Gary Harris) of Holly Creek, Oklahoma; one daughter, Lori Miller (husband, Mike) of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; a sister, Marilyn “Pug” Bjork (husband, Bob) of Cherokee, Iowa; a brother-in-law, David Reid of Holly Creek, Oklahoma; and sisters-in-law, Claudia Wray (husband, Mac) of Idabel, Oklahoma, Sue Lickiss of Virginia, Mary Chase of Cherokee, Iowa & Alleene Reid of Moore, Oklahoma. Audrey is also survived by seven grandchildren, Josephina Westbrook (Michael), Derek Reid (Rhonda), Shaina Hampton (Michael), Angela Dalla Rosa, Michael Mangus, Ashley Arriaga (Jose Lopez) & Sara Gonzales (Lemanuel); fifteen great-grandchildren, Kolton, Alexis, Tyler, Kobain, Journey, Slade, Caymen, Abby, Averie, Franchesca, Fernando, Benjamin, Ramon, Nathaniel & Blake, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Holly Creek Cemetery.
